Sherrod Brown, a Democrat running for re-election in November, will speak at the Akron Press Club Friday, May 11, at the Tangier in Akron. There will be the opportunity for questions from the audience. Doors will open at 11 a.m. Buffet lunch will start at 11:15 a.m. and the program will begin at 11:45 a.m.
This event is co-sponsored with the University of Akron’s Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics and The City Club of Cleveland.
Brown was elected to the United States Senate in 2006 and re-elected in 2012. He holds the highest elected office of any Democrat in Ohio.
He is the ranking member of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee; the Finance Committee; and the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee.
Brown represented Ohio’s 13th Congressional District from 1993 through January 2007. He served two terms as Ohio’s Secretary of State beginning in 1983. Before then he was a member of the Ohio House.
A native of Mansfield, Brown has degrees from The Ohio State University and Yale University. He lives in Cleveland with his wife Connie Schultz, a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and author.
