Ohio U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown will speak Friday, Jan. 6, to the Akron Press Club at the University of Akron’s Martin Center. There will be the opportunity for questions following the speech.

This event is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters for the Akron Area and the University of Akron’s Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics.

Democrat Brown was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006, defeating incumbent Republican Mike DeWine.

Brown serves on the Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, Appropriations Committee, Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the Select Committee on Ethics. He chairs the Subcommittee on Economic Policy and the Subcommittee on Hunger, Nutrition and Family Farms.

Prior to serving in the United States Senate, Brown was a congressman for the 13th District, Ohio’s Secretary of State, and a member of the Ohio General Assembly. Brown holds degrees from The Ohio State University and Yale University. He taught political science at Ohio State. The Mansfield native is married to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Connie Schultz.
