Summit County Executive Russ Pry will give his annual state of the County address Friday, March 23, at the John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron. There will be an opportunity for questions following the speech.

The Akron Press Club sponsors this annual speech.

Pry has been Summit County executive since July 2007, when he was selected to complete the term of retiring Executive James McCarthy. He was elected to the office in November 2008 with 60.8 percent of the vote. Pry was instrumental in keeping Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. world headquarters and Bridgestone Firestone North America Tire in Summit County. His budget for 2012 cut spending by 7 percent, the fourth decline in four years.

Pry is a lifelong resident of Summit County. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Kent State University and a juris doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law in 1984. Prior to becoming county executive, Russ chaired the Summit County Democratic Party for 10 years. He is a life member and past treasurer of the Mogadore Historical Society and was the chair of the Village of Mogadore Charter Review Commission in 1990.
