Stark State College President Dr. Para Jones will speak at the Akron Press Club on Wednesday, April 19. Lunch will begin at 11:45 a.m. and the program will follow. There will be the opportunity for questions.
Jones became Stark State College’s fourth president in 2012. Under her leadership Stark State opened an Akron branch to serve students in Summit County.
Prior to becoming president of Stark State, Jones was president of Spartanburg Community College in South Carolina. There she led an effort to open a new campus in downtown Spartanburg. Jones also worked with students to charter the college’s Beta Sigma Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa national honorary for two-year colleges.
Jones spent 22 years at Stark State before going to Spartanburg. She served for several years as vice president overseeing donor relations, marketing and communications, grants administration and student services.
She received the 2013 Greater Stark County ATHENA Leadership Award for professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women and men in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.
Jones holds a PhD from the University of Nebraska, MBA from Ashland University and bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from the University of Mount Union.
She and her husband, Greg, live in Canton.
