Robert Higgs, PolitiFact Ohio editor and deputy metro editor of the Plain Dealer, will speak Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Akron Press Club at the University of Akron’s Martin Center. There will be the opportunity for questions following the speech.
This luncheon program is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters for the Akron Area and the University of Akron’s Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics.
PolitiFact is the fact-checking project of the Plain Dealer in partnership with the Tampa Bay Times. It has used its “Truth-O-Meter” to rate claims made in political ads, speeches and debates. In the politically charged atmosphere of Ohio this year, it played a crucial role in examining claims made by candidates for president and both houses of Congress. PolitiFact found that claims directly from candidates tend to be true more than those from special-interest groups, PACS and political-party campaign wings.
Higgs joined Plain Dealer in 1995 has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio State University and a law degree from the University of Akron.
