Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted will speak at the Akron Press Club lunch on Wednesday, June 4. Lunch will be at 11:45 a.m. and the program will follow. There will be the opportunity for questions.

Husted was elected secretary of state in 2010. The Republican is running for re-election to the office this fall. In the 2012 election, Husted sent out absentee ballots to all Ohio voters. He also was criticized for his role in enforcing a law limiting in person early-voting to military officers and overseas residents during the last three days preceding election day. Husted ultimately ordered all county boards to allow for early voting during the final weekend.
He was elected to the Ohio House in 2000. Four years later Husted was elected speaker of the House. As speaker Husted was instrumental in passing a fiscally-conservative budget that included the largest income tax cut in Ohio's history. He also led the passage of a school choice option plan a scholarship program to encourage students studying in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine.
After two terms as speaker, Husted was elected to the Ohio Senate He advocated reforming how Ohio’s legislative and congressional districts are drawn.
Husted is from Montpelier, He attended the University of Dayton, where he earned All-American Defensive Back honors as a member of the 1989 Division III national championship football team. He served as vice president of business and economic development at the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Husted and his wife, Tina, have three children.
