Ohio Auditor Dave Yost, a Republican who is running for re-election, will speak at the Akron Press Club lunch on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Lunch will be at 11:45 a.m. and the program will follow. There will be the opportunity for questions. This event is co-sponsored with the University of Akron’s Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics and No Labels Akron.
Yost was elected auditor in November 2010.
Since taking office he has identified $17 million in stolen and misspent public money.
He conducted a statewide audit of schools in 2012 that found nine school districts across Ohio had improperly reported attendance data.
Yost attempted to audit JobsOhio, a private economic development agency funded with public money from Ohio’s liquor operations. Yost argued that he had authority to audit the public funds used by the agency. Legislation that was not supported by Yost then was passed making liquor money private and not subject to public audit.
He is a former Columbus Citizen Journal reporter who earned his undergraduate degree in journalism from The Ohio State University and law degree from Capital University. Yost served as Delaware County auditor and prosecutor.
Yost and his wife, Darlene, have three adult children and two grandchildren.
