Join the Akron Press Club for a discussion on the Reimagining Civic Commons initiative with Dan Rice, president and CEO of the Ohio and Erie Canalway Coalition, and Kyle Kutuchief, Akron program director of the James S. and John L. Knight Foundation.
This engaging conversation will be held at the Richard Howe House on West Exchange Street at 5:30 p.m. on January 17, 2018.
This event is exclusively for members of the Akron Press Club and those who wish to join. Refreshments will be served.
Akron’s Civic Commons focuses on how to make three areas of the city into a new model for civic engagement. The three areas are called The Civic Gateway (downtown), Park East (the neighborhood south of downtown) and Summit Lake Park (Summit Lake). They are connected by the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail.
The Knight Foundation is funding the initiative.
The Richard Howe House dates to Akron’s canal days. In 2008 the house was moved from its original location across from the Akron Beacon Journal to several blocks west on Exchange Street. The house has been restored and now serves as a visitor information center for the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area, a place for meetings and as offices for the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition.
